Voice lessons: what to expect

Signing up for voice lessons can be daunting for beginner singers, especially if you are not used to singing in front of other people. It is important to know that I am not here to judge or intimidate you! As an aspiring professional singer, I take on at least 10 auditions a season, and am constantly thrown into nerve-racking situations, so I truly understand how intimidating singing by yourself can be. We will work on techniques to decrease that performance anxiety, and find ways to turn it into excitement to share your vocal talent! My goal as a teacher is not to create the next famous opera singer, but to help you achieve your personal vocal goals, and help you find your own sense of artistry and musicality. I have experience with all genres of music, but specifically teach a classical vocal technique. In lessons we will work on improving your sight-singing, as well as your overall breath management and phonation process. Each student will perform at least one solo song in a studio recital at the end of each semester. We will also work on any competition music or solos you have in choir.

What we will work on

  • Improving sight-singing skills
  • Improving breath management and vocal technique
  • Language and diction for singing
  • Acting and musical interpretation
  • All-State or other competition music
  • Solo & Ensemble and recital music
  • Musical roles, choir solos, and other solo music

Here are a few reasons to sign up for voice lessons today:

  • Develop and improve your personal vocal skills
  • Build self-esteem
  • Learn diligent study skills
  • Increase brain function
  • Develop creativity and artistic awareness
  • Develop presentation and leadership skills
